What outfit should I wear to a music festival?

Focus: Part 1: Apocalyptic Style

"In the not too distant future, there will no civilsation, there will be no heroes, there will only be madmen..." Mad Max 1980 Official Trailer here.

You will see this style at festivals like Burning Man, and Wastelander (US) type festival like Pox Eclipse in Australia.

The Mad Max movie series of the 80's was the driving force behind the birth of post-apocalyptic fashion. This style imagines that after the collapse of human civilisation, people will have to re-use materials for everything from houses, transport and clothes. With disrupted food chains, there will be focus on survival and with lawlessness, it will be survival of the fittest.

The final look: Rugged Survivor

The best bit about this style is the opportunity for self-expression and an anything-goes type of craziness. So, in a world of couture, go completely the opposite way and bring out your true rugged, back to nature self using re-cycled, ripped and shredded clothing

Components of this style are:

Weathered and Distressed Garments: Soak and leave denim in the hot sun to increase wear-and-tear. Think ripped jeans, frayed edges, and patchwork details. These elements not only add a sense of history but also reflect the harsh conditions of a world in turmoil.

Survival Wear: If the food chain collapsed and people would kill you for a ripe tomato, what would you have to carry around with you all times and where would you put it. Big sharp knife, paracords, lens to start fires, loops to hang various things like a mug on a carabiner etc. are essential elements. So your clothes like pants, tactical vests and body harnesses need to be designed to incorporate these elements.

Layering: Multiple layers means that you can warm in the cold and take off additional layers in the sun. This will add depth, another dimension and visual interest to your outfit.

Earthy Colors: browns, grays, greens, and blacks are shades that reflect desolate landscapes. These colors evoke the bleakness of a world devastated by war or catastrophe. Use colour for a pop out effect.

Accessories: Leather gloves, goggles, gas masks, and combat boots play a crucial role in completing the post-apocalyptic look. These accessories not only enhance the style but also contribute to the overall narrative of survival and resilience.
